The Thing By Daniel P.

Chief Engineer Merlock lifted his gaze from the airlock and turned slightly to look at the scene around him.

The room was, as all compounds in the base were, a stark, blinding, white. Except for the thick circular window on the ceiling and the dull grey handholds on the walls, the room was absent of all color.

A large circular door took up most of one wall. Ringed with a thick layer of clear plastic and metal, it hummed with electricity. A small keypad occupied the center. There was no handle.

There was a creepy shadow outside my window. I slowly crept outside to investigate. The thing had a sharp yellow beak that ripped an object in half. Its chewing sounded like bones cracking. Its breath had a grotesque smell like garlic bread. Chew. Bawk. Crunch. Bawk. Hiss. Bawk. The...creature...was...A chicken eating flowers!

Chapter 1 :

Orion thought about the King Gepher’s announcement. Fight the Hydra? The one that destroyed the kingdom! Orion pictured him coming back with an immense scar. He wanted to become the greatest of the hunters. This would prove to the whole town of Olympus he would become the greatest of them all. He decided that he would do this impossible task.

The large castle doors gleamed above Orion. He walked up the marble staircase and set off for the throne room. King Gepher was delighted.

Posiden The Under Water Fight

“Must save Aries!” I murmured to myself. I swam and swam as fast as I could. Ouch! Not now, jellyfish are stinging me! I finally fought my way through the jellyfish and got Aries. Oh no! Manta rays are attacking me! As I fought my way through the manta rays again, I got a lot of scars during the battle. Then I carried Aries on my back to shore. After that, I swam back down for
Poseidon. Poseidon was being attacked by sharks. A shark bit his left arm clean off.

Christmas, I thought, is when Pa is finally coming home! I was anxious for news about Pa, as a matter of fact, so were Ma, Dorothea, and Susannah. As a 12-year-old girl whose father had left for the Revolutionary War, I was naturally worried. From the war camps, Pa promised to mail our family some letters, but no message from Pa had arrived for the past 6 months. Fear gripped me when I wasn’t hearing from Pa or even knowing about his condition at war. Do stop it, I told myself, you can’t act like the little one here, you’re the eldest!

Andrea the Mind Reader by Calista H.

Andrea lived in the small, and busy city of Chamomile. She was 8 years old and was a very adventurous kid who lived with her kind parents. It was Wednesday, the day her best friend always came for a play date at 4:00. There was only 10 more minutes until her friend would come. A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. Andrea hopped out of her seat and ran to answer the door. But to her surprise, instead of seeing her best friend’s grinning face, she saw an old man with a greyish beard and hair, a navy-blue cloak with gold stars, and a wand sticking out of his pocket. The old man told Andrea that he was a wizard. He also told Andrea some news that made her jaw drop.

“You have a rare magic power to read people’s mind,” said the wizard.

The Vegan Lion by Kevin C.

The Nemean Lion was born, like all lions, on the Earth. He looked all lions do, he was big and furry and golden. But he was different than all the lions on the Earth. He was a vegan, no one knew how he was a vegan or why he was a vegan, but he was one. All the other lions in his tribe bullied and teased him about being vegan, so he ran to the moon to be alone. The Nemean lion stayed in a large grey cave on the moon. Every night, a handsome chariot drawn by Selene the Moon Goddess and her twelve horses rode by next to his cave. The Lion would avoid the chariot and stay in his cave whenever they rode by. He hunted during the day and stayed in his cave at night.  But there was a big problem, whenever he hunted for vegetables, he could never find any. He would look under rocks and over mountains, but there was never ever a vegetable. He would go back to his cave and try to sleep, but he was starving and he just couldn’t.

“I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.” He whined miserably.

maze of uncertainty by jenna w.

“Sylvia! Sylvia, are you okay?”

I could hear the words, but I couldn’t see the person saying them. In fact, I couldn’t see anything but the blurry, faded sky, and the tops of faraway mountains on the horizon. One second, the Lexus approaching us was trying to merge into our lane. The next, cool glass from the window beside me broke into hundreds of sharp fragments, piercing skin on my small arms and legs and face. Some shards flew and hit my eyes, penetrating my irises and corneas. Leaving scars that would remain with me for the rest of my life.

“Sylvia!” Maze squeaked, gasping for air. His voice was high back then, like the shriek of tires against pavement. Was he okay? Was Mom? “Grab my hand! Mom’s calling 9-1-1!”

I turned my head restlessly, my vision blackening at the edges. “Where’s your hand? I can’t see it!”

“It’s right in front of you! What are you, blind?”

That statement was as real as you’d ever know.

Edward turned on the television and flipped to the news.  He was a normal man in a normal house.  He was bored though, and lonely as well.  He accepted anything that was different because he wanted a change in his normal boring life.  He leaned back in his chair and began to stare at the screen.

“Child found dead” said the TV.  “Wow, that’s horrible” thought Edward, although he didn’t really care as long as it wasn’t him.  He left the TV to go get a glass of milk.  As he was pouring he heard something strange on the news.  He set down the carton and raced back to the TV spilling his glass of milk along the way.  “People disappearing off the face of the earth”.  Edward couldn’t believe what he saw on the TV.  It was showing a video of a normal city, until someone just disappeared.  The lady was just there crossing the street and right before Edward’s eyes, she disappeared.  Edward just couldn’t believe it.  Was it a joke? But then he did believe it because he disappeared too.
