Sun
I give you light in the day
And keep you warm when it’s gray
I am the closest star
That lights up the solar system when it’s dark
Without me, you wouldn’t survive
Plants and animals would not thrive
I am the sun
So mighty, so great
And I will decide your fate.

The Center
I am delicate and fragile
I am shattered as easily as glass
People toy with me
I am the controller of love
I am forgotten until two eyes meet
I am a heart
- Camille A.

The Moon
I am chalky
Humans land on me
I am what wolves howl at in the night
I control the oceans tides
Scientists study me
I am pleased

Ode to the Sun and Other Stars
Oh, stars, stars
you are bigger than space,
and as bright as a stage light.
If you weren’t there at all, we’d fall into chaos
(or into a black hole)
You’re as hot as freezing ice,
Oh, bright ball of gas!
-- Group poem by Jonathan, Mirabel, Ryan, Kevin, Lizzie, and Carolyn

Ode to the Night Sky
Oh, darkness above,
your stars guide me when I go hiking,
you twinkle in my eyes,
you’re as creepy as the Joker’s makeup in the Dark Night
you’re dark with patches of light,
Oh, darkness of FEAR!
-- Group Poem by Elise, Olivia, Leah, Arjun, Grant, and Emma

Ode to a Cupcake
Oh, round thing that tastes better than a muffin,
Oh, mass of deliciousness,
your frosting is as sweet as a twinkie,
or Grandma’s kisses,
or revenge!
You are as squishy as a sponge!
Oh, pint sized pile of sugar!
--Group poem by Evelyn, Ariella, Anya, Caleb, Camille, and Timmy

The Big Dipper
LIke a gigantic ice cream scoop
or Draco the Dragon’s ladle for soup,
the hydra drinks from the dipper high in the sky
while Aquila the Eagle wings by as he flies.
Delphinus the Dolphin leaps over its bowl;
if you follow the cup’s edge you’ll reach the North Pole.
It sparkles each night in the darkness above,
the constellation most famous, astronomers’ love.
-- Group Poem by Elise, Olivia, Leah, Arjun, Grant, and Emma

Half Moon
White as sharp cheddar,
a sideways dome of light.
Divides the darkness as
we watch from our midnight picnic
in the dark meadow, fragrant
with blooming night jasmine.
Is it half empty or half full?
--Group poem by Evelyn, Ariella, Anya, Caleb, Camille, and Timmy

Milky Way
Milky white,
night’s bright light.
From cities hardly seen,
milk drops’ shiny sheen.
Stars at a distance of a million years,
the sound of empty space draws near.
Our sun within the galaxy’s spiral disk,
a tiny pinprick smaller than an asterisk.
-- Group poem by Jonathan, Mirabel, Ryan, Kevin, Lizzie, and Carolyn

Space
is a shifting dream
of shapes and spirals
Named on Earth
and altered in the sky
Reflected by light
a laser beam of light
Some comets fly in the sky
Some catch on fire
Like stars,
They live,
Erupt in flames,
and enter oblivion
-Group poem by the Cygnus Group

Tree
I’ll give you shade
That is hand made
I give shelter to everyone
They will thank me a ton
I wish my apples would just sprout
So they can grow and dance about
By swaying in the wind
