One nice day in a rather sunny zoo, Tiger was bragging about his soft pink nose.
“I want a pink nose too!” said Slinky the ferret. “They are so soft and bright!”
“Well, you’re not a cat, cat’s have pretty soft pink noses,” said Tiger.
“Don’t worry,” said Revenue the sea otter. “I will help you get a pink nose.”
“How will you do that?” asked Slinky.
“Maybe I can find some pink paint?” said Revenue with a worried look.
“That would be too wet and splotchy,” said Tiger, “I wouldn’t.”
“It will never happen,” said Slinky, as he put his head in his paws.

“Oh really?” hissed Tiger.
Revenue swam down and gnawed on his favorite clamshell. It helped him think.
The zookeeper walked by and said, “Stop chatting!” She picked up Slinky’s cage and put it closer to the lion’s cage farther away from Revenue and Tiger. The Lion winked at the ferret. Revenue gave a sorry look to Slinky. Slinky shrugged and smiled back.
The Sun glared down at Slinky who was sulking and sulking. Two days later Slinky was still sulking. The Sun burned the ferret’s nose. It hurt so much he ran to the mini river in his cage to wash it. He looked in at his reflection in the river, his nose was sunburned pink. Lion nuzzled Slinky’s nose, “feel it,” he said. Slinky felt that it was tender and soft. Slinky finally had his pink nose! Later that day the zookeeper moved Slinky’s cage back.
Now when you go to the zoo you will know why ferrets stand over the river and look at their noses. Always remember Slinky. Be okay with what you have instead of wanting more.
